I went to a birthday party this past Saturday. It was Rosa's daughter's birthday. Rosa is a teacher around my age and I was stunned to see her in this very special fancy hanbok (traditional dress) She and her daughter were matching. The one year birthday of a child is traditionally quite significant. In the past, if a child lived to survive until he was one, they were strong and would probably survive the rest of childhood. Because of the past, they still celebrate the one year birthday with a lot of pomp and circumstance. We had great food and a lot of fun. I showed up alone, but knew that a lot of other teachers from school would be there.
